Para mostrarle los peligros de la ciudad, la madre le cuenta la historia de Madeleine Bouchard, una mujer que acab籀 asesinada en un cuartucho de Montmartre. Madrid, 2015. Barcelona, 1888. The young Leon is hesitant to even think of his father's expectations to take over the family business. He prefers to paint, his nightlife, brothels, and taverns. When his affiliation with an anarchist group puts him in danger, his parents send him off to Paris there he can finally do what he loves: the art world and mingling with the glittery city intellectuals. Sitges, 1905. A girl about to turn ten asks her mother for a trip to Paris as a gift. To show her the dangers of the city, the mother tells her the tragic story of Madeleine Bouchard, a woman who was murdered in Montmartre. Madrid, 2015. Efren, a journalist known for his powerful breaking-news articles, is sent off on a forced vacation from the newspaper where he works, and decides to go to Paris to meet his ex-girlfriend from high school. There, they decide to finish a novel that they started to write together as teenagers, one that involved an investigation about bohemian life of the late nineteenth century. The Woman Left Out of the Painting is a small world where these three stories are interwoven; a fascinating story filled with anonymous characters who run into personalities such as Degas, Mary Cassatt, Lautrec or Verlaine, and one whose stories are intertwined with historical milestones and literary and cultural references of a brilliant era.
